The Director General of the IOM, Ms. Amy Pope, paid a courtesy call to the MinisterΒ Lebona Lephema at Maseru.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between IOM and the Government of Lesotho and provided an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest related to migration governance, border management, and community resilience. Discussions also focused on strengthening collaboration to ensure safe, orderly, and regular migration while addressing the needs of migrants and host communities.
During the meeting, Ms Pope highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between IOM and the Government of Lesotho in supporting national development priorities and promoting effective migration management systems.
The Minister welcomed the visit and emphasized the Governmentβs commitment to working closely with IOM to enhance institutional capacity, improve migration governance, and support local communities across the country.
The visit forms part of Director General Popeβs official engagements aimed at strengthening partnerships with Member States and exploring opportunities to expand the IOMβs support to national and regional migration priorities.
IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.
Among the attendees was also the Chief of Mission South Africa and Sub Regional Director for Southern Africa Yitna GETACHEW and Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Lesotho Ms Nthati Mosebi
